Thai Iced Tea Milkshake

I think I made this Thai iced tea milkshake to tease Miles. I’ve had a bag of Thai iced tea in my cupboard for a while now, and have made popsicles, cake, and now a milkshake, but not the iced tea.  Every time I go to make the tea, I see how much I have, and gravitate more towards experimenting with it than making straight iced tea.  That’s what happened with my Thai iced tea milkshake. I found an ice cream recipe on food52 and immediately made it. I always keep my ice cream maker container in the freezer just in case I’m feeling spontaneous, and want to make a batch of ice cream.  I’m surprised at how often that happens.

Anyway, the ice cream was pretty easy to put together.  The recipe called for steeping the tea for 10-20 minutes, but I let mine go for about an hour.  I really wanted to make sure that I could taste the tea.  The ice cream turned out pretty well, but it wasn’t as firm as I would have liked.  Instead of serving it in bowls, I made the milkshake.  It was like drinking a nice cold creamy glass of Thai iced tea.  Perfect!

Thai tea ice cream sounds so delicious. I’ve never actually made ice cream before. . .one of these days I’ll actually invest in an ice cream maker. It’s so smart of you to keep yours handy though. . .so that you can have ice cream ready the moment cravings strike.

  4. It definitely is!

  5. For me it like drinking team with cream and sugar. In cafes the tea is usually served with sweetened condensed milk.

  6. Me too! And it’s a great sweet treat.

  7. Thanks Liz, it reminds me of black tea with cream and sugar. You should give it a try 🙂

  8. I love this color too, but be careful, it will definitely stain your clothes!

  9. Thai iced tea is a blend of tea and cream or sweetened condensed milk, so it’s similar to a black tea with lots of cream and sugar. It made a surprisingly good milkshake.
