Melt Gourmet Cheeseburgers

I LOVE a good burger. Doesn’t matter if it’s from a food truck, diner, or 5-star restaurant. It just has to be good. Also, I’m willing to travel for food. Luckily my boyfriend supports my love of burgers because he drove me to Melt Gourmet Cheeseburgers in Leesburg which was a 50-minute scenic drive away from the District. I first read about it in an article in the Post. Leesburg VA just happens to be a historic town (another one of my hobbies is visiting historic towns), so this was going to be a twofer. Unfortunately, we were only able to walk for about two blocks before a severe thunderstorm rolled in forcing us to take refuge in a coffee shop. After about 15 minutes, we were starving and kicking ourselves for not eating first. The rain finally eased up enough for us to run back to the car and drive just outside of the historic district to a strip mall where Melt was located.

It was a tiny place with a few tables, a large visible cooking area and a little counter for taking orders. The menu board was large and intimidating. There were so many burgers to choose from, but since this was my first time, I had to go with a bacon cheeseburger. We also ordered onion rings and I had a beer.

I would later find out that this was a mistake when I saw the burger. But I happily sipped my beer and listened for our number to be called. Then the burger arrived. Oh. My.

It was yuuge (read huge – I couldn’t resist)! I stared at this tower of burger, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion on a housemade bun and wondered how I would tackle it. I smashed it as best I could and took a bite, and another and then another. Special sauce dripped down my hand and wrist and I went through about 4 napkins.

And don’t get me started on the onion rings. They were great. Nice and crispy and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. I couldn’t taste the balsamic that much, but it didn’t matter. They were perfect.

At one point, I had to stop drinking the beer and eating the onion rings because I needed room to finish the burger. Both my boyfriend and I looked at each other as if we were cheering one another in a marathon. It was a struggle, but it was so good, I had to finish.

And I did. We even finished the onion rings. Then we went for a long walk.

This is definitely a one location local spot. Best burgers in the metro area in my opinion.

It is a local restaurant, not a chain.

  8. I had no idea it was a chain/franchise. I thought it was a mom and pop burger spot in VA.

I tried Melt this past year in Birmingham, I was really excited to try it, but unfortunately I didn’t have a good experience. I do love original burgers I would try another location to give it another shot!
