Gold Cash Gold has been open for at least two years now and I finally have a chance to go. I’m trying to get my folks to re-experience their city by taking them to a few new hot spots in our now booming foodie town. Gold Cash Gold was going to be our first stop.
Being the early bird diners my parents are, we arrived just after the place opened for dinner, around 5pm. It was pretty empty, but it allowed me to get a nice shot of the dining room. I loved the décor. Rustic and modern. My favorite!
Of course, we started off with cocktails. Well, my mom and I did. My dad opted for only one cocktail since he was our designated driver for the night. I had another tasty St. Germaine cocktail.
Now, I’ve heard that this place is known for its fried chicken. They brine it in pickle juice. So of course, I had to get the chicken sandwich with habanero sauce and pimento cheese. Since I’m not a super spicy food fan, I asked for the sauce on the side. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the plate placed before me. The sandwich looked like a huge tower of chicken.
You have to take a closer look.
All I can say about this chicken is yum, yum, yummy. The pickle brine was awesome. You could really taste the pickle, but it didn’t take away from the flavor of the chicken. Also by using boneless chicken thighs, the chicken was nice and moist and the crust crispy.
My dad had a double burger with 1000 island and pimento cheese on a pretzel bun. The burger and toppings were great, but I only have one criticism. I think pretzel buns are best for sandwiches. The delicious, yet chewy texture of the bun makes burger eating a little difficult.
I’m so glad that I went and I look forward to going back for brunch.
