Do you remember the other day when I talked about my binge-fest at The Diner? Before we even finished eating we knew we wanted a milkshake next. As we waited for our table, I saw a milkshake on a server’s tray and couldn’t get the image out of my head. At the moment, however, we knew it wasn’t going to be possible to put more food into our bodies, so we spent about an hour walking off brunch by strolling around the neighborhood going in and out of vintage clothing and record shops. It worked. It also worked up a bit of sweat because it was an incredibly hot, sunny and humid day. We popped into Starbucks for a cool beverage and a little sit-down. Twenty minutes later I was ready for my milkshake.
We hopped in my car and headed across town to Thomas Sweet in Georgetown. I’ve seen a ton of pics from this place on Instagram and flagged it as one of the places I wanted to try. When we arrived, it was a bit overwhelming. The shop was very small and the line zigzagged in such a way that it took us almost five minutes to figure it out! Then there was the menu. There must have been at least 35 flavors of ice cream, plus another 15 flavors of yogurt, five types of cones and an entire countertop full of candy and sweet toppings. Then there was the chocolate counter. There were mounds of various flavors of fudge, chocolate-covered Oreos, pretzels, nuts and just about anything else you could think of.
By the time we here halfway through the line, which did move quickly despite being a long one, I was more in the mood for an ice cream cone instead. The toppings were just too tempting! I decided to go with chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone topped with toffee pieces. I asked for “a” scoop and my cone was completely filled! This was such a welcome treat for such a hot day.
