Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken was the first stop on an all-day food fest with my friend. I’ve learned finally that if you want to get the largest assortment, you need to go early. We arrived around 11:30am and there was already a small line forming outside. There was also a ten-minute wait on chicken strips. Who knew there was going to be such a demand on a Saturday morning! As usual, I try to buy one of every flavor they have. This time, I bought: cherry blossom, lemon pistachio, crème brûlée, maple bacon and pb & j. Pb&j is the only one I don’t have a picture of because we ate it as a snack on our way to Stomping Ground. I can say that it was delicious and tasted just like a pb&j sandwich on sweet bread.
The other doughnuts were very, very good. I’m not a huge fan of jelly doughnuts, but I loved the cherry blossom and more importantly, I loved the creativity of how the jelly was added. I’ve never seen a doughnut injected with jelly that had a hole in the middle. They definitely didn’t cut it in half and I didn’t see more than one injection hole. Must have been magic 🙂 The crème brûlée had a nice sweet crunchy top with a lovely vanilla pasty cream filling and the pistachio lemon was surprisingly good. I was afraid that the lemon would over whelm the doughnut, but it didn’t. The lemon flavor was light and delicate. And now for my favorite, the maple bacon. Do I really need to say more? There’s bacon on it, so I’m automatically going to love it. I want to go back again to try the chicken. I saw that they have a doughnut fried chicken sandwich that has my name on it. Now to workout vigorously for the next few weeks before I go!
