Eating & Drinking in Annapolis, MD

Yesterday was the nicest day we’ve had this spring so far and I wanted to spend the day outside of the district. The plan was to check out the Decanter Wine Event at Pimlico and then head over to Annapolis for a day on the waterfront.

Pimlico:  The coolest thing about the wine event was that it was at the home of Preakness.  That’s it.  The wine event itself was basically booths of local (I think) wineries offering samples along with other tables selling soaps, handmade cards and your basic bric-a-brac.   I think you know where I’m going with this.  Seeing the horses though was pretty cool.

Annapolis: My friend an I walked around like tourists for a while and decided to pop into Federal House for lunch.  The beer menu was fairly extensive, so I decided to go with a beer flight giving me the chance to sample some of the local beers as well as other micro brew favorites.

From left to right:

  • Cherry Blossom Lager – Fordham & Dominion Brewing Co – Dover, DE (Waaaay too sweet, even as a dessert beer)
  • Live – Southern Tier Brewing Co – Lakewood, NY (Pretty good, very hoppy)
  • Resurrection – The Brewers Art -Baltimore, MD (My favorite, love going to Brewers Art!!)
  • Federal House Golden Ale – Halethorpe, MD (Basically a home made Miller Lite)

Also, I was probably the only person in Maryland that day who didn’t eat crab cakes.  I was going to get them (thery’re my fav), but I haven’t had a french dip in so long, I couldn’t pass it up.  It was actually pretty good, but I should’ve had some sort of seafood.  Next time I go to Annapolis, I’m going to check out Cantler’s.  I’ve heard lots of good things.

After lunch we popped into Kilwin’s ice cream shop for a little dessert.  I hadn’t planned on getting anything, but the aroma of waffle cones was wafting down the street calling me like a siren’s song.  I had one scoop of Salted Caramel with chocolate chunks.  It was delicious!!
