This is my second attempt at a family-friendly-easter-baking-activity that I could do with my son, since he’s leaving for spring break this weekend. From what I’ve seen, bird nests have been around for a long time, but I’d never heard of them until Pinterest. I thought my son would be on board since candy is involved.
I love the bird nests! It’s super cute, easy to make and looks a lot harder to make than it is (read, you’ll really impress your family). I meant to dip a few in chocolate, but I forgot. I think they would look and taste great as well.
Bird Nests
- 2 cups miniature marshmallows
- 4 cups chow mein noodles
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 package jelly beans (, cadbury chocolate eggs, or mini robin eggs)
- Butter a muffin tin. In a medium saucepan on low heat, combine marshmallows and butter until melted. Stir in the chow mein noodles; coating well. With greased fingers press small amounts of noodle mixture into bottom and sides of muffin pan. Refrigerate until firm. Fill with candy.
You can also shape by hand.
