Momofuku CCDC

My bosses’ birthday was coming up and I wanted to take him out to lunch to celebrate. He loves eating out and trying new places, so I chose Momofuku CCDC which opened a few months ago. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I couldn’t resist telling him. He was ecstatic and asked how I was able to get reservations when the earliest he’s been able to get in for dinner was April! I didn’t even think about reservations. When I went to the Milk Bar next door when it first opened, the place wasn’t crowded at all, so I didn’t think it would be a problem. I went to OpenTable anyway and was able to get a reservation, at 11:15 am! So it would be a very early lunch.

We were both pretty excited as neither of us made it to the original location in NYC (I did try the Milk Bar in Brooklyn). The atmosphere was great. Light and airy with very high ceilings. Our table was in another room way in the back of the restaurant which surprised us because we had no idea the place was so large.

As we sat down and looked over the simple, yet delicious looking menu, I leaned over and said, “I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to take pictures of my food”. He said “of course!” as he began taking pics of the menu.

We started with the Brisket Buns with horseradish, pickled red onion and cucumber. The brisket was melt in your mouth good. The fat was buttery and very flavorful.

Now to move onto the main course. I ordered the Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder which was served with a sesame glaze, pickles and pickled red onion over rice. OMG, the pork shoulder was great. I made notice that none of the tables had salt and pepper shakers on them. The only condiment on the table was a chili sauce which I contemplated adding to my dish, but once you started to blend everything together, the sauce wasn’t necessary. My friends like to tease me because whenever I eat something that’s really good, or that I really like, I giggle like I little kid. I giggled throughout the entire meal which was slightly embarrassing since I was sitting across from my boss. I can’t wait to get a reservation for dinner!

  • When you order a smoked pepper turkey that tastes more like ham, what to you do? You dice it up with a cheese blend of asiago, fontina, parmesan, and provolone, then add it to your favorite biscuit recipe for a nice breakfast bread. Then your mom says “hey, let’s make turkey sandwiches with them and pour gravy it”.....
