Eating and Road-Tripping to Maine

Last weekend, my friend and I went on our first trip to Maine.  I’ve always wanted to go and now that I’m back on the East Coast, there’s so much for me to take advantage of. Most of my trip revolved around eating.  I’m going to have to work out twice as much now that I’m back!

We drove the first night to NYC to break up the trip and to get a little bite to eat and stopped in the Eastwood on the Lower East Side.  It’s a great little bar and fish and chips place with a twist.  I of course, had to order the fish chips!

Since it was late, we decided to stay in the city instead of heading to Stamford, CT for the night.  I’m glad we did.  We stayed at a cute little hotel on the Upper East Side and had a little coffee in the morning before hitting the road.

Our next stop was New Haven, CT.  Another place we’ve never been and I had to try their pizza.  A friend recommended Modern Apizza.  We ordered a Margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, and garlic.  The crust was nice and thin, I loved the char and the basil and garlic, yum!

Finally, we arrived in Cape Elizabeth, Maine where we finally get to see the house we’ll stay in.  This was my first time using Aribnb, and  had a great experience.  The house was lovely and the host was very nice.  Her back year was gorgeous.  I loved the firepit!

We took it easy the first night and took a short drive to the Portland Head Lighthouse just in time for sunset.  It was a beautiful lighthouse, and I had fun trying to take pictures through the viewfinder šŸ™‚

We also drove into Portland to take a peek at the city and within 5 minutes spotted a donut shop called The Holy Donut and popped in to check it out.  All of the donuts were made with potatoes.  They were very good, but a little chewy which I hadn’t expected.

In the morning, we had a quick bite at C Salt Gourmet Market and then hit the beach.  Everything there was homemade and delicious.  There was a great selection of spices, sauces, wine etc.  It was like going to a mini Dean & Deluca.

After a long day at the beach, it was finally time to try a lobster roll, so it was off to The Lobster Shack. I’d never had one before, but I love lobster.  When it arrived, it was smaller than I expected, but after eating it, I realized that you didn’t need a big sandwich.  Lobster can be very rich. Are you seeing a theme here?

Our last full day in Maine was spent on Peaks Island.  It’s about a 20-minute ferry ride from Portland and you can rent a golf cart for a self-guided tour.  It only takes about 30 minutes to cover the entire island, so were able to stop in a few museums, and check out the rocky beaches.

Finally, the morning came for us to leave, but not before stopping by Scratch Baking Co. for a few pastries and coffee.  The cinnamon roll was fantastic!

I was sad to leave but happy to be back home at the same time.  It was such a nice little getaway.  I hope you enjoyed viewing my food adventure!  Now it’s back to baking.  Cya!
